![]() I was running the CPU at 58p/46e all core throughout but watching the HWINFO sensors, it's quite obvious that the RTX 4090 is doing all the work.įor fun, I ran the exact same upscale test a second time using the same NVENC encoder but configured Topaz Video AI to use only (or primarily) the 13900K for render duties. ![]() ![]() I only captured the following for the start (first 10 mins or so) of the entire process since I knew it was going to be a "go make dinner" sort of thing but it's pretty neat data. What was interesting was that the GPU maintained near-constant 3100mhz core speeds throughout the process while using very little total power/wattage (~200w max). This ended up being just about how things ran with the GPU throughout the 4hr50min that the render test took to complete. I was aiming to have the 4090 running at 3100mhz most of the time on the core and 11,600mhz on the VRAM. So this is just a 10-minute desktop capture showing a massive HWINFO data set running in real-time as Topaz is doing its processing in the background. And I configured the software to use the RTX 4090 CUDA cores as the primary rendering device and the 13900K then functioned merely in a sort of "assistive" role. I just used a 2-minute long, 720p source file and then set Topaz up to upscale it to 4K while applying all sorts of minor enhancement tech that that particular program uses. The most interesting bit about the following is the impact the RTX 4090 had on the simple test I did earlier. I was specifically interested in testing some of the "newer" encoders like NVENC H.264 using the RTX 4090 as the primary rendering device (CUDA cores) vs using the same NVENC but with little to no use of the RTX 4090. And just to see how the system will handle things running at a max CPU and GPU overclock while doing so. I've been experimenting with Topaz Video AI to upscale various low-quality videos to 4K. I'm sure an MBA won't be too far off the performance of an M1 Pro/Max, but if the budget allows I'd choose the latter if only for the screen, speakers, and MagSafe.Thought some of you might find this interesting. Hard for me to find a fault if I'm honest. I moved up from a mid-2012 MBA so needless to say the speed and battery life are both massive steps up for me. The speakers are also amazing - spacial audio. The screen is incredible (pitch-black blacks) and fantastic resolution. If you're considering an M1 Pro or Max: I think they're great machines. The longer VEAI runs, incidentally, the more the MacBook Pro heats up, but still - inaudible fan running at a low RPM. (Edit: It looks like they fixed this issue in an update today v2.6.1) As soon as I tabbed back into it, it quickly sped up back to 0.09/sec frame. I'm sure there's a nuanced reason for this, though I don't know what. Interestingly, if I multitasked in other programs and returned to VEAI, I sometimes but not always noticed that the enhance had slowed down quite considerably (from 0.09/sec to perhaps 0.50/sec). I just gather that the computer was having to try a bit. Fans may have come on, but at an imperceptibly low volume. whilst running a VEAI enhance in the background and it began to warm up marginally. This time I loaded a bunch of other programs, played a Youtube video in addition to some Spotify music, etc.
